Introducing a revolutionary way to truly track the freshness of stored breastmilk

How to use the MilkFresh App

Download the app, create an account, and you're ready to start tracking freshness. Each time you fill a bag, simply activate a sensor, place it on the bag and then scan it to ‘add bag’.

See at a glance the expiration date of each bag. No need for any more guesswork about which bag to use.

FAQs

How do the sensors work?

Our MilkFresh sensors accurately track the freshness of milk by monitoring time and temperature in real-time. These sensors simulate milk degradation through a chemical reaction, which is captured by a camera-operated device. The data is then analyzed by our machine-learning model to provide precise freshness metrics and estimate the remaining shelf life of the milk.

What are the benefits of using the sensors?

Determining the freshness of your breastmilk is challenging when it has been exposed to temperatures outside the recommended storage conditions for a fridge or freezer. As storage temperature rises, the shelf life of milk diminishes. Our sensors continuously monitor temperature and time to accurately measure the impact on freshness and the remaining shelf life of the milk.

How has the accuracy of the sensors been validated?

The milk sensor is built on technology that meets the rigorous standards of the World Health Organization (WHO). It has been meticulously calibrated to accurately mimic the natural spoilage process of milk based on temperature exposure over time, ensuring consistent accuracy.

How do I apply the MilkFresh sensor?

Follow these 3 simple steps:

  • Remove the middle blue layer by peeling it backwards. Do not remove top layer!
  • Firmly press remaining layers together
  • Adhere the sensor to the breastmilk storage container
  • To scan the sensor, open the MilkFresh app or simply scan the QR code the sensor and follow the instructions

Can I use the sensors on milk I express at work or on-the-go?

Yes, we recommend adding a sensor to every fresh bag of breastmilk. If you transport the milk, we advise to rescan the sensor before placing it in a fridge or freezer to account for any temperature changes during transportation.

Does it work on bottles as well as milk storage bags?

Yes, the sensor will work on both bottles and bags. However, the adhesive might be difficult to fully remove once applied to the bottles. We recommend using the sensors on milk storage bags only.

How long do the sensors keep for?

Each pack has an advisory expiry date.

How should I store the sensors?

For optimal performance and longevity, it is recommended to store the sensor in a dry place. Once the sensors are removed from the sealed wallet, it is recommended they are used within 4 weeks.

Is there anything special I need to know about caring for the product?

Yes, to ensure your product stays in excellent condition:

  • Avoid submerging it in water.
  • Do not use it in the microwave or place it in a bottle warmer.

Is MilkFresh FDA approved?

MilkFresh is currently NOT FDA-approved, nor is it a medical device. MilkFresh sensors should be used solely as an aid to assist a system user in tracking the ambient temperature conditions of expressed breastmilk and are not intended to replace you as a caregiver.

Will the sensor measure the nutrients?

The sensor tracks temperature and time to measure the milk’s freshness. It does not measure or track the nutritional content.

Do I need to download the app?

Yes, in order to receive a freshness indication and log the history of the bag within the parameters that track the freshness of the milk, you would have to download the app.

How does the app work?

It uses data analytics to continuously track and monitor the freshness of breast milk in real-time. When you scan the QR code it reads the freshness of the milk at that point in time and provides a shelf-life estimation for the milk at fridge and freezer.

When should I scan the sensor’s QR code?

In order to get an accurate result you should scan the sensor’s QR code once the milk is pumped, at the point of activating the sensor, to record the milk bag within the system. You should scan it again before placing in fridge or freezer for an accurate shelf-life estimate and before you use the milk to check it is still fresh.

How often should I scan the QR code?

You can scan the sensor as often as you like to check the freshness. To track accurately, you are required to scan the sensor when you add a new bag and again if you transport it, before placing it in a fridge or freezer.

What should I do if I forget to scan the QR code?

If you forget to scan the QR code of the sensor at the point of adding a new bag, please do so as soon as you remember. If the sensor was applied at the point of adding a new bag it will still have tracked the freshness.

How will I know if the milk is fresh?

When you scan the sensor, you will be able to see in the app if the milk is FRESH and how many days are left before you should use it. If your milk is not fresh, you will a receive a ‘NOT RECOMMENDED’ reading.

How do I know which bag to use?

Check your milk inventory in the app and identify the sensor ID with the shortest remaining days and we recommend to use this bag first.

How do I track the inventory of bags?

Each bag is added to your inventory when you ‘add a bag’ in the app. We recommend scanning the bag before use to confirm it's the one you want. You will have the option to ‘remove this bag from inventory,’ allowing you to keep your inventory updated.

What data does the app hold?

Each sensor has a unique code. When you add a new bag, you'll be prompted to input the Pumping Date, Time, and Volume of milk. This data, along with the app's analytics, helps track the freshness of the milk linked to each sensor code.

Can other individuals use the app?

Yes, you can share your Dr. Talbot’s credentials with others, such as your partner or caregivers. This allows them to use the app and receive freshness updates on your breast milk inventory.

What are the recommended storage temperatures and times for breastmilk?

Why do I have a static “1 day left” for thawed milk?

Based on the CDC guidelines thawed milk can be used within 1 day in fridge. Please click here for more information.

Can I move the bag from the fridge to the freezer?

Yes, if the bag is still fresh you may place it in the freezer and scan it before thawing to receive an updated freshness indication

Will I know how long the milk will last?

Yes you will be able to see the ‘use before’ date for every bag. This information will be visible in the app and is recorded every time you scan the sensor.

How do I use and care for my MilkFresh sensors?

Keep in a dry place and use within:

- 2 weeks from opening at room temperature in original package

- 4 weeks from opening in the freezer in original package

Do not put in microwave. It's best to store breastmilk bags at the bottom of the refrigerator. Sensor will start to track milk’s freshness only once it is properly activated.
